Seeing your work and designs while walking the streets is a great reminder that the work we do matters. I can’t look at the Road Reserve in the same way since joining Council!
It’s the little things that I am proud of, like watching a cyclist enjoy the new water fountain in Engadine Town Square or ensuring safe pedestrian access across development frontages. These small projects leave a lasting impact on our community.
I've been working with Sutherland Shire Council for almost four years, after spending four years as a façade engineer at a small consulting firm. I was drawn to local government because I wanted to work for the local community – a community where I’ve lived my whole life.
Council has been a great place to grow my career. I have learnt so much through the professional development opportunities made available here – like Springboard, a women’s career development program, the Young Leaders Network where I was a co-chair leading my Directorate, and the Management Challenge which is an industry-based competition.
One of the things I’m really enjoying is the strategy and policy work. Strategies set the stage for Council’s future commitments – some of our team’s achievements in this area have been the Public Domain Strategy, Verge Garden Policy and the revised Outdoor Dining Policy. I know these initiatives will promote and guide the progressive revitalisation of public domain spaces within Sutherland Shire.
