Project background

Box Road Reserve, Sylvania is a key recreational area and this project will transform an existing multi-use facility into a modern, high-quality sporting precinct and ensure it meets the need of the wider community and their lifestyles now and in the future.

Sutherland Shire Council and Sylvania Heights Community and Youth Club are pleased to advise that work is starting on major upgrades to the upper playing fields and facilities at Box Road Reserve in Sylvania. The upgrades will provide improvements to safety, accessibility, and more capacity for our community to use the reserve.

Project scope

The upgrade will provide improvements to safety, accessibility, and more capacity for our community to use the reserve.  The work includes:

  • reconstruction and levelling of two playing fields
  • installing a cricket pitch between the two fields
  • improved drainage and irrigation
  • smart-control floodlighting
  • accessible pathways, fencing and seating.

Project Schedule

Site Establishment – 15 January 2024

Expected Practical Completion –  end October / November 2024

Note: the expected completion considering turf establishment period, will be end of February 2025.

Impacts during construction

The site will be closed during construction.  The fields are expected to reopen in 2025.

The hockey ovals, clubhouses, cricket nets, community centre and carparking areas will remain open.

Construction Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 7:00am to 6pm
  • Saturday: 8:00am to 1.00pm  (occasional)
