Project timeline
Project start: mid Feb 2025
Expected completion: Dec 2025
Project background
We are starting construction on major upgrades to the sporting fields and facilities at Seymour Shaw Park, Miranda. The work is part of the next stage of delivering the Seymour Shaw Park Masterplan.
The first stage of the upgrade, the new active youth precinct, was completed and open to the public in November 2023.
Construction of the off-street car park on Wandella Road is already underway to improve safety and accessibility. Work on the carpark is expected to be completed in March 2025.
Consultation with the Miranda community
The Masterplan provides a coordinated and long-term approach to the way open spaces and recreation opportunities are improved into the future and was approved in November 2021 following extensive consultation with stakeholders and the community.
Since the Masterplan was adopted, we have been consulting directly with sports organisations. The future sports facilities will feature high quality turf sports fields, designed to accommodate Cricket, Football (Soccer) and Netball, providing versatile spaces for both recreational and competitive play.
Project scope
The work includes:
- Levelling of the sporting fields
- A new amenities building with supporting sport facilities, public toilets and viewing platform
- Terraced bleacher seating
- Accessible pathways
- Tree removal, and planting of new trees and landscaping
- New lighting.
Project schedule
Site Establishment – mid February 2025
Practical Completion – estimated December 2025 (subject to weather).
Impacts during construction
The fields will be closed during the construction.
Alternative arrangements have been made with sporting organisations for the duration of the work.
We will keep you updated as the work progresses and thank you for your patience whilst we carry out these improvement works.
Funding
This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government under the NSW Accelerated Infrastructure Fund (AIF) in association with Sutherland Shire Council.
Frequently Asked Questions
At Council we only remove trees when needed, as keeping a ‘green’ Sutherland Shire is important to us and our community.
Our Urban Tree & Bushland Policy requires that we undertake offset planting, as part of any project where trees need to be removed.
108 new trees will be replanted both on the site and elsewhere in the same catchment.
Our design integrates improved planting methods and construction techniques to support tree health. This includes providing specialised tree pits to improve access to water, nutrients and airflow for the new trees.
We are working with the effected sporting organisations and our clubs to implement alternative arrangements.
There are public toilets available at the southern end (next to the tennis courts).
You can also use the National Toilet Map to locate nearby facilities.
