Cr Meredith Laverty

I am a firm believer in the importance a community focused local Council can play in the everyday lives of residents. I am keen to be an advocate for local residents and an active leader in working to deliver better services through greater investment in the upkeep of amenities such as halls and parks, local roads, footpaths, stormwater infrastructure and waterways.

Key focuses of mine will be:

  • Improved sporting fields – we must prioritise access for local sporting clubs by improving drainage and maintenance of our playing fields across the Shire to allow greater participation throughout the year.
  • Immediate and ongoing investment in our local roads and parking solutions - our roads need investment to prevent potholes, constant patching and parking problems.
  • Greater investment in our stormwater management system - with immediate and long-term works to help protect residents from flood effects and protect our waterways and creeks.
  • Faster turnaround times on DA processing - improve Sutherland Shire Council’s ranking in processing to top 3 in NSW to assist the cost of family home renovations, housing affordability and local economic activity.

My vision for Sutherland Shire is a place that welcomes all; providing the best possible facilities, in harmony with our natural environment, for all residents where future needs are planned for and delivered.

I have worked at all levels of government and have run my own successful business advising large organisations corporations on complex stakeholder and crisis communications.

More recently I transitioned into professional theatre. I hold a Bachelor of Arts.
