Cr Laura Cowell - Deputy Mayor

I was inspired to seek election to Council because I wanted to amplify the voices of my community and create a more connected and safe environment for everyone. My passion for advocacy, especially for the most vulnerable, and my desire to foster inclusivity and positive change drove me to take on this role. I felt that my experiences and commitment to kindness and leadership could make a real impact in shaping a better future for our community.

This term, I will continue to support the building of a more inclusive and connected community by improving our local services, advocating for better infrastructure, and enhancing accessibility for all residents. I’m focused on ensuring that our road maintenance and public spaces are prioritised, while also supporting initiatives that foster safety, community engagement, and economic growth. I will continue a focus on investing in our sporting fields and infrastructure, including a key project for a state-of-the-art regional centre with stadium seating and two fields for field sports. By enhancing these facilities, we can support local athletes, increase community engagement, and attract larger sporting events to the area.

Ultimately, I aim to make our community a place where everyone feels heard, valued, and empowered to thrive.

Grounded in a people-centric approach, I am a dynamic leader driven by purpose and a commitment to making a difference. An award-winning CEO, and community advocate, I have a proven track record of achieving exceptional business results and fostering high-performance teams. My leadership journey is driven by a purpose to give back and make a significant impact.

As CEO of Tender Loving Care and President of the Sutherland Shire Football Association, I strive to promote inclusive growth and community engagement. Outside of professional pursuits, I am deeply involved in my local community, advocating for causes I believe in and providing steadfast support.

I hold multiple positions across various boards and committees including Director of Fibrous Dysplasia/McCune Albright Syndrome Australia. I am also the host of a radio show on 99.7 2SSR and podcast called ‘Amplify with Laura Cowell’.

As a testament to my commitment to service, I have been honoured as Local Woman of the Year in 2022 and 2024.

My interests and hobbies revolve around community involvement, leadership, and supporting others. I am passionate about advocating for people living with disabilities, amplifying the voices of the vulnerable, and fostering inclusivity.

I also have a deep love for football, both as a player and in my role as President of the Sutherland Shire Football Association. Music is another significant passion, and I enjoy sharing local and international talent on my radio show "Amplify with Laura Cowell".

Beyond that, I love spending time with my family, enjoying nature, and engaging in personal development to continue growing as a leader and advocate.

As mentioned, I am also President of Sutherland Shire Football Association.
