Cr Jack Boyd - Mayor

I am humbled to be elected as Mayor and am committed to working collaboratively with Councillors of all political backgrounds to build a better future for everyone in the Shire.

The Shire has been my home for my entire life - it’s where I went to school, played sport and did Nippers as a kid, worked my first jobs, where I’ve rented and now own a home. The importance of the work we do on Council is not lost on me; it impacts all of our daily lives, and I will work tirelessly to ensure Sutherland Shire remains the best place in the world to live, work, and play.

Council is so much more than simply rates, roads and rubbish. We have an obligation to deliver high quality infrastructure and services the Shire needs. As a dedicated advocate for community engagement, I want to ensure that Council involves the community in decision-making, takes on that feedback, then delivers for our community.

I’m also committed to ensuring there are ongoing opportunities to promote and celebrate our community’s cultural diversity and broad range of interests. advocating for community events, the expansion of our night-time economy, and provision of recreation and entertainment for residents and visitors to enjoy.

I am currently employed as a Cyber Security Manager with the NSW Public Service and oversee a diverse team responsible for the delivery of cyber security awareness training, communications, workforce development initiatives, and incident response exercises to uplift the cyber capabilities, and improve the resilience of, NSW Government.

Prior to moving to a career in cyber security, I worked as a solicitor with a focus on Directors’ and Officers’ liability, Professional Indemnity, and Cyber Risk Insurance.

I hold a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Commerce (International Economics) at the University of Wollongong. I completed my Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the Australian National University and was admitted as a solicitor at the Supreme Court of New South Wales and High Court of Australia.

In my personal life I enjoy bushwalking, swimming, reading and, after a 14 year hiatus, am back playing Water Polo.
