MEDIA RELEASE - Plenty on offer at upcoming Sutherland Library community open day
Sutherland Shire libraries have been working to develop new and varied services and offerings to meet the ever-changing needs of its members. To showcase the wide range of books, e-books and audio books, events, and library resources now available, Sutherland Library will be hosting a community open day, to be staged on Saturday 18 November.
Everyone is invited to be part of the action, with attendees vying for the chance to win lucky door prizes for taking part in the day. Additionally, people who refer a friend to sign up to any one of the Council's libraries during the month of November and the new member will both be entered into a prize draw to win an iPad Mini.
For the younger members of the community, there will be drop-in craft, games, and a treasure hunt among the entertainment on offer. Kids who complete the treasure hunt will go also into a draw for the chance to win an iPad Mini. Council libraries have partnered with Rotary, with local Rotary Club members set to serve up a sausage sizzle outside the library from 10am to 2pm.
This event coincides with the celebration of Sutherland Library’s 70th anniversary and highlights the evolution of Council’s libraries over the years. From a humble location for reading and relaxation, libraries have transformed into spaces for inspiration, learning, and connecting with others, with an ever-changing series of events and workshops on offer.
Sutherland Shire Mayor, Councillor Carmelo Pesce expressed the benefits of utilising local libraries, saying that library staff took great pride in ensuring an engaging array of resources and events was always on offer.
“There is so much on offer at our local libraries with staff providing access to a wide range of online collections, resources, and in-library events, as well as the huge range of traditional titles available on the shelves. There truly is something for every member of the family at every stage of life,” Mayor Pesce said.
“Sutherland Shire is home to eight libraries, serving the entire community from Bundeena to Menai and Cronulla. Council's libraries take pride in continuously evolving their services based on feedback and demand from their members, and with membership free, there’s no reason not to sign up!
“The Sutherland Library open day is a fantastic opportunity for residents to explore what their local library has to offer and to discover the wealth of resources and events available to them.”
