Literature lovers, book collectors and bargain hunters across Sydney are expected to descend on Sutherland Library later this month to get their hands on a riveting read or two as part of the Sutherland Shire Libraries’ Annual Book Sale.
The event, to be staged over two days from Saturday 18 – Sunday 19 May, will once again provide book lovers with the opportunity to get lost among stacks of amazing titles as they peruse and purchase thousands of second-hand adult fiction, non-fiction titles and children’s books, each on offer from as little as $1.
With an impressive collection of novels, biographies, cookbooks, travel guides and picture books, Sutherland Shire Mayor, Councillor Carmelo Pesce encouraged all local residents to take advantage of the opportunity to pick up some of the stellar selection of assorted titles on offer.
“The Libraries’ Annual Book Sale is the biggest event of the year for readers in the region, with local residents as well as book lovers from across Sydney lining up around the block each year as they look to find their next favourite read in the treasure trove of items,” Mayor Pesce said.
“By rehoming some of the pre-loved items available at the sale, residents can give new life to books and enjoy the incredible stories within them for years to come.”
Proceeds raised by the Libraries Annual Book Sale will be used to support Sutherland Shire Council’s library services which helps in acquiring new resources to augment the already impressive array of resources available across Council’s eight libraries as well as helping to support the many engaging programs delivered by library staff.
“The annual book sale helps our libraries’ to continue to adapt their services and spaces to meet the changing needs of the Sutherland Shire community as we move into the future,” said Mayor Pesce.
“Our local libraries are important third places for the community, where residents and visitors can get lost in a book, discover the history of their local area, develop a new skill or connect with others.”
The 2024 sale will be held at Sutherland Library, to be staged from 9am to 3.30pm on Saturday 18 May and between 11am and 4.30pm on Sunday 19 May.
“With thousands of amazing items to discover, collect and cherish, I encourage everyone to come along to this widely popular event,” Mayor Pesce said.
“By rehoming some of the items available at the sale, residents can contribute to supporting our community libraries to continue providing the programs and services we all know and love.”
Payments will be accepted by EFTPOS only. Residents are encouraged to bring carry bags or small trolleys on the day.
