We are inviting members of the community to apply for a position as a community representative on the Affordable Housing Contribution Scheme Working Party.
The Working Party will support the delivery of the following outcomes of Council's Affordable Housing Contribution Scheme:
- building awareness that affordable housing is essential for a diverse community and sustainable economy;
- identifying ways to address the housing needs of low to moderate-income households in the Sutherland Shire; and
- creating a framework for the Affordable Housing Contribution Scheme.
As a community representative, you’ll work with experts and government officials to make sure the views of local residents and business owners are represented. You will collaborate to provide independent advice based on information from Council officers, industry experts, and relevant organisations.
Applications closed 5:00pm Sunday 15 December 2024 and roles will commence in early 2025.
Eligibility
To be eligible to be a community representative you must:
- be a resident or owner of land within Sutherland Shire Council area; or a person entitled to vote in Sutherland Shire Council area under the Local Government Act;
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding or have lived experience, of the housing needs of low to moderate income households;
- be willing to attend and contribute to the Working Party meetings;
- demonstrate a professional and ethical approach and work with stakeholders and technical experts in a collaborative and professional manner.
You will have a responsibility to understand and follow our Code of Conduct for Council Committee Members, Delegates of Council and Council Advisers.
You are ineligible to be a community representative on a Working Party if you:
- have been employed by Sutherland Shire Council or a joint organisation in the past 12 months; or
- have a close personal or business relationship with a Sutherland Shire Councillor or a person who has a senior role at Sutherland Shire Council that may lead to a real or perceived conflict of interest; or
- are currently providing, or in the past 3 years have provided, any material goods or services – including consultancy, legal, internal audit or advisory services – to Sutherland Shire Council which directly affect subjects or issues considered by the Working Party; or
- are employed in any role that may lead to a real or perceived conflict of interest.
About the role
Term
Community representatives will be appointed for the duration that Council’s Affordable Housing Contribution Scheme is prepared and delivered.
We will advise successful applicants no later than Friday 20th December 2024, with your role to commence in early 2025.
Meeting frequency
Meetings will start in early 2025 and will continue on a regular basis until the Affordable Housing Contribution Scheme is delivered. Meetings will be held at Council’s Administration Building in Sutherland Shire.
As a community representative, you are expected to read and review documents provided before each meeting.
Membership
To provide independent advice and input on matters within its scope, the Working Party will be composed of the following members:
- Five Councillors (including Chair and Deputy Chair)
- Director Planning
- Senior Manager Strategic Planning
- Strategic Planner
- Two Tier 1 Community Housing Providers
- Up to two community representatives
Training and Support
We offer induction training to all new community representatives and will continue to support you while on the Working Party.
Remuneration
This is a voluntary position, there is no remuneration.
