If you’re a fan of adventure tales, come along to this author talk and hear Mark Howison share his hilarious escapades in the Australian outback.
In 1973, David Howison announced to his then 17-year-old son Mark that they were going to walk around Australia to raise money to protect kangaroos. After his initial shock, Mark was up for the adventure.
13 Pairs of Boots: The road travelled was only half the journey is the tale of how a father-son duo’s inspiring quest to save the kangaroos became a fight for survival. With rogue RSPCA officers, crocodiles, snakes and semi trailers, they soon realised that it wasn’t the adventure they had anticipated.
Expecting a hero’s welcome and free hospitality in every town, it didn’t take long to discover that not only would they have to fend for themselves, but in the bush, the kangaroos didn't need saving – just ask the angry farmers.
