Blended Horizons: My Cultural Odyssey

Collection of Works

Reduction linocut print on watercolour paper, watercolour, gouache

My first-generation immigrant narrative began with transition: my physical movement between the two nations of Taiwan and Australia. This is represented as intersecting fragments throughout my body of work. Inspired by a yearning to visualise my complex cultural identity, I used a multi-layered material practice where each thin tier of gouache over ink investigated another dimension of the aesthetics of selfhood. I added natural imagery to my self-portrait to convey how, despite destabilised cultural and spiritual environments, there is a lingering truth: wherever you are, there are echoes of home in the dappled light and native treeline.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Alphonse Mucha, David Mensing, Elina Adrshina.
