Sun And Moon: Mythic Duality

Printmaking

Multiple relief print processes

My body of work is inspired by the ancient stories from Chinese mythology that I grew up with. In these stories, the sun is associated with the story of the courageous Houyi who embodies the spirit of bravery. On the other hand, the moon is associated with Chang’e, embodying the spirit of perceptiveness. Through the medium of printmaking I offer a new perspective, using geometric shapes and a minimalist colour palette of red, blue and black. My work encourages the audience to contemplate the balance of resilience and gentleness in individuals, as well as the intricate equilibrium of the world.

My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists: Roslyn Kean, Piet Mondrian, Mark Rothko.
