Natural fibre weaving, blind embossing

In my body of work, Foraged intricacy, I have transformed cast-off organic material to comment upon the interconnectedness of our natural world. My work is a series of hand-woven sculptures made from the natural fibres of Bangalow palm inflorescence, palm leaves and vines.

My intent was to reflect upon the ephemeral essence of flora, everchanging through its growth, decay and regeneration. By physical stripping back the palm leaves and then weaving them I explore the concealed identity of detritus, revealing its gifts that are to be treasured and protected rather than discarded.
