The Human Gaze

Photomedia

Does beauty lie in the subject itself, or in our presentation of it? Does our need to observe lead to the corruption of that beauty? By constantly posting and showing off the natural world on social media, we strip away its intrinsic charm, leading to something unrecognisable.

My body of work extends the notion of the male gaze to the idea of beauty in the natural world being presented for the purpose of our gaze. Our engagement with the so-called natural world is corrupted by our presence; the animal, aware of our gaze, loses the autonomy we claim to cherish.
