Refracted Moments

Photomedia

Perspex, high-gloss paper

My body of work explores the similarities between water and memories, which can both refract and distort. I started with Perspex to fracture the image and represent light rays passing through the water’s surface, initiating the deformation of the viewer’s perception. Intertwining two images equally represents the power that both memory and water have to come together and be reshaped as one whole. Having both water’s refractive nature and the swimming person as the subject of the work emphasises the relationship and influence of each on the other. Memories and water become shared within refracted moments.
