Three portraits of female faces, a child, a woman and an old woman, all of middle eastern appearance. They are all wearing head coverings and the background of each portrait is very dark.

Gender violence, manifesting essentially as violence against women, is one of the most significant epidemics in the Middle East. Every day a woman dies because of cultural beliefs. This act has been normalised, submissively accepted to become an intergenerational occurrence. In most cases, it is the result of the woman speaking up against her family or husband. The woman is seen to be an embarrassment and is killed for this disrespect.

My body of work, Generations, reflects this cultural theme, representing three women across the generations to bring attention to the cycle of domestic violence against women.
