Ceramics, earthenware clay and stoneware glazes
For my body of work, I have produced a collection of ceramic tableware inspired by my environment, somewhere that gives me peace and solace through a close connection to the land. Each piece has been formed by hand on the pottery wheel, this simple act bonding this connection creating a muscle memory of my environment. The constant state of flux in the everchanging landscape from dry to wet seasons has informed the colour pallet in which I glazed, reminiscent of my home's countryside. The greens of the scrub and browns of the earth paired with the floral pink and moody winter sky that form subtle abstract imagery of landscapes that meander around the bases of my work. The collection explores our connection to the land. From the colours, imagery and even the medium of clay, the tableware reminds us of our ever-present link to our natural surroundings and emphasises the vast scope of the Australian landscape with the undulating layers and fluctuations in extensive bushland and wide-open skies. Thus, the large area of block colour that appears above the condensed layered landscapes below.
