My body of work confronts opposing notions of 'reality’: the photographs convey the illusion of a life-like pictorial space, while the acrylic paint itself possesses tangibility, thus reality. So I question: what is a painting? What is a photograph? What is reality? The notion of chance is invoked by the deliberate abstract composition and intentional absence of consistency produced by the jarred, swift movements of the equipment employed to apply the paint. This parallels natural phenomena: rain, fire, the stars. My work makes connections between abstract work and nature in relation to chance, questioning the truthfulness of life.
