Human vanity comes at the expense of animals, with people paying thousands for a commercially bred puppy over those waiting in shelters; further failing them if they pose a burden. Does preference for a certain breed truly encapsulate the purpose of a companion animal? Are we impeding the true care and love that we possess the power to give? In merging an animal with its own departed remains, I portray how animals are fragmented for human needs. This cycle of overpopulated shelters and animals bred in pursuit of profit rather than companionship must be broken, and I urge: ‘adopt, don’t shop’.
