Full body suit: dyed raffia strips and seed pods / feather decorated mask
My body of work is based on my experience with cancer and the search for strength to guide me through the fear and isolation of chemotherapy. I created a character that represented my emotions and then explored ways to portray the connection with this warrior within. I travel to the darkness of the forest to express my deepest anger and devastation, the river to reflect, and finally, the ocean as a place of cleansing. By exploring the different materials, dying the raffia, sewing the seed pods and discovering ways to display the movement of the costume, I began the cathartic process of healing. This work is my personal journey.
