Since its inception in 2001, the biennial Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award has emerged as a prestigious national exhibition dedicated to celebrating and elevating the significance of work on paper. This unique showcase not only promotes the excellence and innovation in the field of art on paper but also actively supports and encourages artists who specialize in this medium.
With a total prize pool of $26,000, the Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award is a cornerstone event that recognizes outstanding artworks created with, on, or about paper. The awards presented during this biennial event are a testament to its commitment to fostering artistic talent.
The awards include the $15,000 Major Award, the $5,000 Young and Early Career Artist Award, the $5,000 Friends of Hazelhurst Local Artist Award, and the $1,000 People's Choice Award. Additionally, Hazelhurst's installation crew selects an artist for the Residency Award, providing a four-week studio residency to further support the development of artistic endeavours.
The exhibition not only serves as a platform for recognition but also as an opportunity for artists to explore the materiality, versatility, and possibilities of paper as a medium for artistic expression.
Entries for the Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award 2025 will open on 1 April 2025.
Things to know before you enter:
- You can enter up to two (2) artworks
- The entry fee for each work is $50.00
- You can submit up to 3 images of your chosen artwork/s
- Images must be JPEGs
- Maximum image size is 3MB
- Image file name must include your first name, last name and artwork title
- You need to provide a brief artist statement or description of work (max. 500 characters)
Finalists will be exhibited in The Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award 2025 exhibition from 27 September 2025 to 25 January 2026.
