Stephanie Monteith is an artist is interested in capturing the variety of light effects upon objects and spaces using oil or acrylic paint, watercolour and drawing materials. She works from direct observation of carefully constructed still life set-ups that may sometimes include a portrait component. In contrast to this studio-based approach Stephanie also works from the landscape en plein air.

Stephanie has exhibited widely, and she is represented by Australian Galleries. She has been a finalist in many prize exhibitions including: the Archibald Prize, the Wynne Prize, the Sir John Sulman Prize, the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and the Helen Lempriere Travelling Art Scholarship. Stephanie has won a number of prizes including the Jenny Birt Award for painting UNSW 1997, Gosford Art Prize 2018 and Hazelhurst Art On Paper Award for a local artist 2022.

Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with honours and a Master of Fine Arts from UNSW Art & Design. Her teaching experience includes tutoring in painting and drawing at UNSW Art & Design, National Art School and various TAFE colleges and art centres.

Stephanie teaches painting classes for adults at Hazelhurst.
