Lee Bethel works on paper, cutting, folding, piercing and manipulating paper to create forms, shadows and complex patterns.
She has hung in the Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW and has been a finalist in the Paramor Prize, Rik Amor Drawing Prize, the Banyule Art on Paper Award, the Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award, Hidden, Sculpture in the Vineyards, the Waterhouse Art Prize, the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award, the Hutchins Award and the Burnie Regional Gallery Art on Paper exhibition. She has had solo shows in the Jean Bellette Gallery, Hill End, the Bathurst Regional Gallery, Bathurst and the Shaolhaven Regional Gallery, Nowra.
Lee Bethel was Highly Commended in the James Kiwi Prize and shown in the Fractured Beauty Exhibition at Wollongong Gallery. Her work in the McClelland Gallery, Victoria was voted Popular Choice. She has been awarded residencies at Fremantle Arts Centre, Artsbox Footscray, Bundanon, and twice at Hill End. In 2005 she received a UNESCO Laureate to work and exhibit in France.
Lee teaches drawing, mixed media, painting and children's classes at Hazelhurst Arts Centre.
