We are proudly supporting Sutherland Shire Reconciliation to warmly invite you to the annual Reconciliation Week Picnic. This picnic is held to show respect to local Indigenous culture and heritage with a focus this year on building positive relationships.
The theme from Reconciliation NSW: "Charting a Path Forward: Empowering Communities Now More Than Ever"
This picnic is a fun way to celebrate together on our shared Reconciliation journey in our local community.
The day is a relaxed, unifying cultural event that includes:
- Smoking Ceremony by Dharawal man Graham Avery
- Dharawal Welcome by Aunty Dolly Brown
- Traditional dancing: 'Cedar' Torres Strait Islands
- Free BBQ sausage sizzle, drinks and fruit
- Free native plant tube stocks
Other activities on offer include:
- Weaving with Shalah Johnson
- Cultural food and medicines walk around the bushland adjacent to the park, facilitated by Graham Avery
- Native tea making, also with Shalah Johnson
- Fun crafts and activities for all ages
- Yarning circles to talk about Reconciliation with Aunty Dolly Brown
- The importance of preserving our trees with Sonja Sherer.
- How to be a good Ally with an Aboriginal Elder
- There’ll be a raffle with great prizes to be won!
All are welcome, so bring your picnic rug. We hope to see you there!
