Closure of Nancy Richmond Playground

The Nancy Richmond Playground has been  temporarily closed to allow for maintenance repairs and replacement of the existing softfall. We estimate the playground will reopen in mid-May 2024. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Engadine Town Park is a small municipal park with seating and grassed open space.     The park is fenced along its perimeter, with two gates at the entrances on Old Princes Highway.

The playground includes shade sails and climbing equipment.

Nancy Richmond Playground

Nancy Richmond Playground was named in honour of local midwife and long-serving nurse, the late Nancy Richmond (11 November 1922 to 4 May 2020).

Nancy, also known as Matron Nancy Taafe, was a long-time Sutherland Shire resident as well as a dedicated nurse and midwife who delivered thousands of babies to families in the Sutherland Shire over the course of five decades.

From 1946 to 1971 Nancy was the owner, Matron and sole midwife of San Gerard Private Hospital in Engadine. After the closure of the hospital, Nancy worked as a nurse, first  in the maternity ward of Sutherland Hospital before later working in aged care. Nancy worked as a nurse until she was 85 years of age.

Nancy was well known in the local community and recognised for her dedicated service to the Sutherland Shire.  Nancy also worked to support the local order of Salesian Sisters at St John Bosco Parish and volunteered with the local St John's Ambulance Bridge, for which she received a Services Medal of the Order of St John for her contribution.
