Grants are provided at a federal, state, and local level, which support communities to develop quality infrastructure, develop sporting initiatives and increase participation and activation of local sporting clubs. Sutherland Shire Council is committed to collaborating with associations and clubs in identifying and securing grants for their local sporting communities.

Federal Government Sports Grants

The Local Para Champions program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-24 participating in state, national or international championships for athletes with a disability.

  • Base Grant: $750
  • Applicants travelling 800km - 1999km to their nominated championships: + $100
  • Applicants travelling internationally or greater than 2000km to their nominated championships: + $200
  • Applicants residing in a rural electorate: + $50

The Telstra Footy Country Grants is designed to financially assist initiatives that can support Community Clubs affiliated to the AFL to strengthen the base and secure the future in three key strategic areas: Grow and assist volunteer capacity, Grow and diversify participation, Improve club environments and experiences.

Variety NSW/ACT promotes inclusivity for all Australian children. Schools and NFP organisations are invited to apply for a grant up to $10,000 to purchase equipment that will promote access and inclusivity in the community for children aged 0-18 years, living with financial disadvantage, geographic isolation and/or a disability or chronic illness.

Items that directly benefit children will be considered. We have provided examples below but feel free to contact us before completing an application to ensure the request is eligible.

Examples include:

  • Supplies, e.g. bubblers, garden supplies, library supplies, musical instruments etc
  • Equipment, e.g. play equipment, adaptive toys, sporting equipment, beach wheelchairs, canteen equipment etc
  • Technology: g.  Coding supplies, 3D printers, smart boards, hearing loops etc
  • Experiences, e.g. transport to school camp or group activity that would otherwise be unavailable
