Council’s Citizen of the Year awards program recognizes outstanding community service and excellence in the local community. The program aims to highlight the academic, artistic and sporting achievements along with the unsung heros of our community who willingly give their time and expertise to help others in our area to make Sutherland Shire a better place to live, work and play.
Outstanding community service and excellence includes areas such as education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, sports, the arts, the environment and any other areas that contributes to the advancement and well-being of the Sutherland Shire community. Individuals and Community services nominated must be residents or operating within the Sutherland Shire.
Nominations open 30 July and close 14 October 2024.
Award categories
Citizen of the Year
- a Sutherland Shire citizen who has made the most outstanding contribution to the Shire community during the year.
- a Sutherland Shire citizen who is a role model, quiet achiever or leader in our community.
Young Citizen of the Year
- a Sutherland Shire citizen (25 or younger as at 31 December, 2024) who has made the most outstanding contribution to the Shire community during the year.
- a Sutherland Shire citizen who is a role model, quiet achiever or leader in our community.
Community Group of the Year
- an organization or community group based in the Sutherland Shire, which has made the most outstanding contribution to the local community during the year.
Environmental Citizen of the Year
- a Sutherland Shire citizen or community group which has made an outstanding environmental achievement in the local community.
Sports Citizen of the Year
- a Sutherland Shire citizen or community group that has made an outstanding sporting achievement or demonstrates outstanding contribution to sport in the local community.
Young Sports Citizen of the Year
- a Sutherland Shire citizen (25 or younger as at 31 December, 2024) that has made an outstanding sporting achievement or demonstrates outstanding contribution to sport in the local community.
