Sign Hear is a Deaf-owned organisation founded in Gymea, NSW, in 2018 by Sharon Xabregas. Sharon, born Deaf and raised in the Sutherland Shire, founded Sign Hear to provide local interpreting services and support for the Deaf community and has remained closely involved with the area, winning the Sutherland Shire Local Business Award 2022.
Sharon established Sign Hear to meet the need for services that would bridge the gap between Deaf and hearing communities and offer support to families and individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing. With more than 18 years of experience in Disability Employment Services and teaching Auslan, Sharon developed Sign Hear services to provide Auslan interpreting, job placement assistance, and support for the Deaf community.
The organisation employs a diverse team of staff. The team utilises Auslan, promoting inclusiveness in the workplace and allowing Sign Hear to offer a wide range of services.
In addition to winning the Sutherland Shire Local Business Award 2022, Sharon stays connected to the local community through the Sutherland Shire Business Chamber. “With my experience, I’m able to offer valuable insights and inspiration to other entrepreneurs looking to start a business in the Sutherland Shire,” says Sharon.
